GMC Recognized at SEARC Awards Banquet

Michael Roberson was presented the 2012 Southeastern Air Rifle Conference ‘Most Improved Shooter’ award Saturday night at the Awards Banquet hosted by The Citadel. Michael improved his average by more than 40 points throughout the course of the season. Georgia Military Collegetoped North Carolina State University for the 2011-2012 ‘Most Improved Team’ trophy. This is the second consecutive year Georgia Military College has received this award. There were fifty one shooters representing seven colleges in the championship match. Georgia Military College top shooter wasJaraCharleton in tenth place with a score of 568. She shot a 96-96-94-95-93=94. After the official match there is a shoot off called the Finals. Only the top scores ofeight shooters qualify for this honor. The shootersscores in the finals are added to the shootersscores in the official match to determine the winners for thegold, silver and bronze medals.Dani Foster of North Carolina State University was the gold medal winner. Team member BrettLosey placed thirteenth with a score of 564. He was recognized by his peers for the Consistency Award shooting six scores of 94in the standing position. LaToniSmith shot a 89-95-91-92-91-93 for a personal bestscore of 551 for the Bulldogs and Michael Roberson shot 88-86-89-93-92-89 as his personal best and score of 537. The team total was 2220. Other team members wereMarkeshia Burton with 519, ColeLassetter 508, Larry Massey 496, Diana Duncan 508, James Squires 456,Breona Weldon 476 and Robert McKenna 509. This is the first year for many of these shooters and they all deserve recognition for a job well done. With the retirement of John Cummings, theFounder and Director of the Conference, the coaches selectedToriKostecki of North Georgia College and State University as the new SEARC Director. The Championship Team Standings for The Southeastern Air Rifle Conference were: North Carolina State University 2295.6 Citadel 2261 North GeorgiaCollege and State University 2237.6 Clemson University 2223.6 Georgia Military College 2169.6 Wofford2165 Georgia Military College Rifle Team will beconcentrating on their shooting skills at the Intercollegiate National Championship at Ft.
