GMC Presents Honorary Degrees at Alumni Weekend 2019

Georgia Military College alumni and friends met October 18th and 19th to reminisce during Alumni Weekend 2019. One of the highlights of the weekend was honoring two alumni with honorary degrees: Terry Johnson of Warrenton, Ga. and Frank Ahouse of Albany, Ga.

Johnson attended Georgia Military College in 1962 and received the GMC Service Award in 2011 and the GMC Alumni Achievement Award in 2018. He has been a former member of the GMC Alumni Board of Directors and a faithful supporter of GMC for many years. Ahouse attended GMC in 1963 and was a key supporter in the naming of the Major William Kemp Wing in the Old Capitol Building at GMC.
Both Johnson and Ahouse had to leave GMC before they finished, but on Friday, October 18th, they were awarded Honorary Associate of Science degrees. Director of Alumni and Community Engagement at GMC, Craig Portwood, says both gentlemen are deserving of this honor.

“Both Terry and Frank have had a deep commitment to GMC in their adult life,” Portwood said. “Their passion for providing opportunities for current and future students, as well as connecting alumni back to GMC is admirable. While having to leave before finishing their degrees, this special ceremony is a way to honor them and their faithful support over the years.”
