GMC Prep School seniors sign ROTC and athletic scholarships

On April 25, GMC Prep seniors Tray Daniels and Hunter Kimball were awarded Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) scholarships and signed their offer letters to continue a post-secondary education at the school of their choice.

Tray Daniels received a national 3-year Army ROTC scholarship and plans to attend Georgia Southern University where he will study Electrical Engineering. Daniels has been attending GMC’s Prep School since his freshman year. This year, Daniels served as the captain for the football team and has been a member of the team for four years. He also played on GMC Prep School’s basketball team for two years and was a member of the baseball team for one year. Daniels also managed the basketball team for two years while being a member of GMC Prep School’s State Championship One Act Play. During his sophomore year, Daniels served as a class representative for the Student Government Association. This year, Daniels became a member of the Senior Beta Club and Spanish Honor Society. Daniels says he’s excited for this opportunity to pursue a career in the military.
“This is an amazing opportunity that has been presented before me to attend Georgia Southern University on an ROTC scholarship and it just offers me an extra opportunity to show the world what I can do and how I can lead people,” said Tray Daniels.

Hunter Kimball received a national 4-year Army ROTC scholarship and track scholarship to Augusta College. Kimball has been attending GMC’s Prep School for the past two years. He is an avid runner and has been running cross country for seven years and track for four years. Kimball holds every distance school record at GMC including the 800, 1600, 3200, and 5000. He also holds the region/state record in the 5000. Kimball was a member of the 2016 1A State Championship Cross Country team. In the championship race, Kimball came out victorious, winning the race and claiming an individual state title. He’s recently become the region champion for track in the 1600 and the 3200 and he is hoping to bring home two more state titles. Kimball is also a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, earning more than 112 merit badges. Kimball says he’s excited to continue his running career and starting his military career.
“I’m very excited,” said Hunter Kimball. “This is a great opportunity in my life to go forward with it and continue everything that I love with running and starting a new chapter in my life with the military.”
