GMC Junior College Football Team Says Goodbye to Long-time Assistant Coach While Miami University of Ohio claims to be the cradle of coaches, Georgia Military College can lay claim to that title as well. Currently, GMC JC Football has seven active former coaches who in recent years have gotten their start at GMC and moved on to the pro and college ranks: Robert Nunn 11 Years in NFL – Currently with the NY Giants Doug MeachamOklahoma State University Chad Lunsford Auburn University Dale JonesAppalachian State University Scot SloanAppalachian State University Vic CabralGeorgia Southern University Corey Peoples Clark Atlanta University Today, Georgia Military College adds and eighth as Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator Jeff Tatum says goodbye to GMC and moves on to become the Head Football Coach at Garden City Community College in Kansas. Coach Tatum came to GMC originally in 1998 as a quarterback and receivers coach for one year before returning to GMC to become the offensive coordinator in 2000. In the decade he has been the offensive coordinator, GMC has captured a national title, produced 13 NJCAA All-Americans on the offensive side of the ball, and finished the season ranked in the top ten nationally in total offense seven times. Before coming to GMC, Coach Tatum spent ten years at Mississippi Delta Community College (MS) where he won the 1993 National Championship and was named as a member of the coaching staff of the year three times. He also coached the Mississippi All-Star Game three times. “Jeff will be sorely missed by our institution and out football team. He has been an essential part of our success on and off the field for a decade. His experience, performance, work ethic, and friendship will be sorely missed,” commented Head Coach Bert Williams. Coach Tatum will be taking over a program that was among the nation’s elite in the 90’s and early 2000’s, but which has fallen on rough times the last 5-6 years. “Jeff has what it takes to return that program to a position of national prominence – I expect he will do it in short order.” GMC will also be losing the head coach of their newly created cheerleading program as Mrs. Dawn Tatum will be departing as well when summer rolls around. “Dawn has done a wonderful job developing our cheerleading program from the ground floor, so we will have to find a suitable replacement for her as well. While we are very sad to see the Tatum family depart us, we are excited for their opportunity and wish them all the best,” commented Coach Williams.
