October 5, 2012 GMC honors beloved student with rededication ceremony Vaishali PatelThe Union-RecorderThe Union-RecorderFri Oct 05, 2012, 10:28 AM EDT MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia Military College rededicated a monument and tree Wednesday in memory of beloved GMC Prep student Jill Stewart. Stewart made a great impact on the lives of many before being tragically killed in an automobile accident in 1996. The monument and tree formerly resided behind Jenkins Hall before being placed in front of Usery Hall. Stewart’s parents, Randy and Susan, were in attendance at the ceremony to honor their daughter’s legacy. GMC Prep School Principal Col. John Thornton and Assistant Principal Lt. Col. Pam Grant shared kind words about their former student during the time both educators were teachers. Student Tori Spivey sang ‘Amazing Grace.’
