GMC Drops tough one to Navarro, 29-18

The #10 GMC Bulldogs hosted #1 Navarro College on Saturday and came away on the short end after a hard fought 29-18 loss to the defending national champions. Navarro struck first in the contest on their first play from scrimmage with a 70 yard pass catch and run to take an early 6-0 lead after the extra point was blocked. The GMC offense couldn’t answer on the next possession and Navarro College again hit a long pass play to extend their lead to 12-0 after another extrapoint was blocked. GMC answered this time, going on an extended drive that brought them to a 1st & goal on the 5, but a sack on a 1st down pass and two additional missed opportunities forced GMC to take a field goal. The game went back and forth for the remainder of the half, with Navarro adding a third touchdown late in the second half after a GMC fumble at mid-field, and the half ended with GMC behind 19-3. The second half saw the GMC offense come to life and tighten the score to 19-10, but Navarro again answered through the air to extend their lead to 26-10. GMC ran the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown, but a late flag negated what would have been a huge momentum builder. GMC added another touchdown early in the fourth quarter and added a two point conversion to close the gap to 26-18, but Navarro went on an extended drive that came away with a field goal to again make it a two score game. Pinned inside their 5yd line after a deep Navarro punt, GMC drove out and nearly closed the gap, but Navarro’s defense tightened up and the visiting Bulldogs were able to run out the clock to earn their second win of the season. GMC returns to action next Saturday on the road against Snow College in Utah.
