GMC Defeats Nassau
Coming into the game against #4 Nassau Community College, GMC knew they had
to make a statement about what kind of team they really had. Two narrow
losses – one to #21 Navarro College (TX) in overtime and a two point loss to
#4 Snow College out in Utah – had the Bulldogs out of the NJCAA rankings.
The Bulldogs achieved their goal Saturday with a 34-6 dismantling of the
Nassau Lions at Davenport Field in Milledgeville.
GMC struck first after their opening drive ended with a fumble at the Nassau
30 yard-line. After the Bulldog \”D\” stopped the Lions cold, GMC drove the
field on the legs of Antroun McDaniel, the arm of Ferlando Williams, and the
speed of wideouts Phillip Morris and Octavious Everett. Morris gathered in
the pass of Williams for GMC\’s first score, and McDaniel pounded through the
Nassau defense for the second to give the Bulldogs a 14 -0 lead in the
second quarter. A GMC fumble gave the Lions a short field and a field goal
to shorten the lead at the half to 14-3.
GMC continued the attack int he second half, pounding away with McDaniel and
hitting the airways with Morris and Everett for two more scores. The
defense added one of their own with a long interception return by Scott
Broughton for a touchdown – his sixth in the last two games.
GMC continues its season this Thursday night in Milledgeville against Weber
International JV at 7PM.
