GMC Cadet Sergeant Shannon Harper Receives Company Leadership Award

October 7, 2002 – Georgia Military College high school sophomore, Shannon Harper, won the Camp Eagle Company Leadership Award at the conclusion of the Junior ROTC Summer Camp held at Fort Stewart, Georgia, June 16 – 22, 2002. Harper was chosen the best squad leader out of 98 other cadets in his company during the camp. COL John Alton, JROTC Instructor at GMC said, “This award is very difficult to achieve. Only one person from each company receives this distinct honor. Shannon’s great accomplishment is a reflection of his ability and determination.” This is the first time a GMC cadet has won this award in the past ten years. A GMC student since the 6th grade, this year Shannon Harper has earned the rank of Cadet Sergeant, and is the Assistant Squad Leader for Delta Company, First Platoon, Second Squad. He is a member of GMC’s basketball team, track team, and the Junior Beta Club. Harper says he enjoys the military training and discipline he receives at GMC. In his spare time he spends time with family and friends and participates in church activities. Shannon is the son of Tammy Harper, of Sparta and Christopher Harper, of Milledgeville.
