Georgia Military College Honors Legacy and Community at 2024 Alumni Weekend
Georgia Military College (GMC) celebrated an inspiring Alumni Weekend from October 24-26, 2024, as alumni from across generations gathered at Main Campus to reconnect, reminisce, and honor the institution’s values of “Duty, Honor, Country.” This year’s theme, “Remember When, Experience it Again” highlighted the unique spirit of GMC, a place where past and present unite to build enduring connections and shape future leaders.
The festivities began on Thursday with the GMC Alumni Association Board Meeting, followed by a reception honoring GMC alumni who are also faculty and staff members across the institution. “These individuals are the very definition of what it means to be ‘All In,’ showing their passion and commitment to our mission every single day,” said GMC President, Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell, IV, USA (Ret).
Friday’s events started with the Alumni Golf Tournament at The Club at Lake Sinclair, where over 70 participants enjoyed a day of friendly competition in support of Junior College Athletics.
Afterward, alumni enjoyed campus and trolley tours before gathering for the Alumni Parade on Grant Parade Field, complete with a Drill Team exhibition and Knock Out Drill. “It was inspiring to see our Cadets, past and present, united on Grant Parade, keeping our cherished traditions alive,” Caldwell noted.
Reflecting on the weekend, Edward Amerman, President of the GMC Alumni Association and a 1990 graduate, shared, “This year’s Alumni Weekend was a true testament to the legacy of leadership that GMC embodies. Seeing alumni from the 1950s to today’s cadets marching on the field reminds us all of the remarkable impact GMC has on our lives and our communities. It’s a special time to connect with old friends, make new ones, and celebrate what this institution has done for each of us.”
Friday evening saw alumni and guests gathering for a BBQ dinner followed by a spirited Prep School football game, where seniors were honored on the field.
Saturday morning kicked off with the 29th Annual Will Robinson Memorial Race, a collaboration with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office that honors the life and legacy of former GMC Cadet and Sheriff’s Deputy, Will Robinson. The day’s highlight was the Alumni Awards Brunch, where GMC honored outstanding alumni for their achievements and contributions:
• BG Jack M. Davis, USA (Ret) – Distinguished Alumnus JC ’79
• MG Reginal Neal, USA (Ret) – Military Service JC ’89
• The Honorable Beth Camp – Alumni Achievement JC ’99
• Ms. Macy Watkins – Emerging Young Alumni Leader HS ’15
• Mr. Gus Pursley – Community Service HS ’75
• Mr. George Hogan – GMC Service
• Mrs. Marcia Robinson – Honorary Alumna
• Mrs. Pam Grant – Honorary Alumna
“Their achievements inspire us all and reflect the true spirit of GMC,” Caldwell said, expressing pride in the contributions these alumni have made to GMC and their communities.
To close the weekend, alumni gathered for a night of music and laughter with the Andrews Brothers Dueling Pianos, a performance that brought the festivities to a high-energy conclusion. “Thank you to everyone—alumni, friends, families, and our extended GMC community—who made Alumni Weekend 2024 a success. Your dedication to our alma mater is what makes our GMC family so special,” Caldwell added.
As GMC continues its legacy of leadership, Alumni Weekend provides a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the institution’s remarkable growth and enduring mission. “We’re sending our students to prestigious institutions nationwide, including service academies and top universities,” noted GMC’s Alumni Association President, Edwin Amerman. “Our Cadet Corps has nearly tripled since my time here, a testament to the power and appeal of a GMC education.”
