Georgia Military College Columbus To Host Honors Convocation on May 30

Georgia Military College Columbus To Host Honors Convocation on May 30 Georgia Military College Columbus will hold an Honors Convocation on Thursday, May 30, to honor its exceptional students, faculty, and staff of 2012-2013. The ceremony will take place at CSU’s Davidson Auditorium at 6PM and is open to the public. The mission of GMC Columbus is to provide students with an environment that develops character through leadership in addition to fostering learning. Students who have demonstrated themselves to be leaders of the GMC Columbus community will be recognized. Every year, each GMC Columbus faculty member selects one Outstanding Student to honor as well. The Outstanding Students of 2012-2013 will be announced at the ceremony. Additionally, students who have completed at least 100 hours of community service within a calendar year will be congratulated on their induction into GMC’s Distinguished Order of the Servant Leader. Because GMC’s graduation ceremonies are held at the main campus in Milledgeville, “it is important for us to have an opportunity to recognize our outstanding students locally,” according to Professor Cathy Carter of Columbus. Carter believes that “recognizing the excellence of hard-working students is appropriate to what they’ve achieved,” and that it reinforces their desire to succeed. Faculty and staff members who have demonstrated their commitment to the development of the students of GMC will also receive recognition and awards, including Adjunct Professor of the Year, Character Educator of the Year, Columbus Faculty Member of the Year, and Columbus Staff Member of the Year. Georgia Military College, the only public liberal arts junior college located in Columbus, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees. The majors offered are Business Administration, Criminal justice, Education, General Studies, Health and Physical Education, History, Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Information Technology, Logistics Management, Paralegal Studies, Pre-Nursing, Psychology, Sociology, and Social Work. Enrollment for the Summer and Fall 2013 terms is currently underway at our new campus.
