Georgia Military College Columbus Names Employee of the Quarter

Georgia Military College Columbus Professor Erica Stone of Americus was presented with the Employee of the Quarter Award on June 10. The Employee of the Quarter Award is given each quarter to one faculty or staff member who upholds the mission and values of GMC exceptionally. Stone serves as the Humanities Department Chair for GMC Columbus and as the Chair of GMC Columbus’ Mentoring Program. She also serves on a number of committees and is “always actively making substantial contributions” to all that she is involved in at GMC, according to Professor Cathy Carter of Columbus, who will be assuming the role of Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs on July 1. According to Carter, Stone was selected for the award “because of the excellent work she has done on an articulation agreement with CSU in addition to the many other tasks and responsibilities she takes on [at GMC Columbus].” Stone enhances the student experience at GMC by serving as the faculty advisor for Phi Theta Kappa Academic Honor Society and Reflections Art Society. “As the advisor for Reflections Art Society, Stone has hosted creative writing events for students, such as Poems on the Pavement, an opportunity for students to express their original poetry or their favorite poems using sidewalk chalk, and the Coffeehouse Poetry Slam, during which students presented their original poems, short stories, songs, or other creative works,” said Carter. When asked how she felt about being this quarter’s award recipient, Stone stated: “I am so honored to be Georgia Military College’s Employee of the Quarter. GMC’s mission to develop the intellect and elevate character is a joy to uphold because of our hardworking students, faculty, and staff.”
