Georgia Military College Columbus Hosted Honors Convocation for Exceptional Students, Faculty, and

Georgia Military College Columbus held an Honors Convocation on Thursday, May 30, to honor its exceptional students, faculty, and staff of 2012-2013. The ceremony took place at CSU’s Davidson Auditorium. This year’s graduating class attended the institution-wide graduation ceremony at the main campus in Milledgeville, but was also recognized at the Honors Convocation ceremony so that families and friends would be able to celebrate with the graduates locally. Every year, each GMC Columbus faculty member has the opportunity to select one Outstanding Student to honor. The Outstanding Students of 2012-2013 are John-Amos Hall of Columbus, Alexander Tolbert of Columbus, Derrick Pope of Phenix City, Marcus Scrutchins of Columbus, Matthew Nichols of Columbus, and Zachary Green of Columbus. Students who have demonstrated themselves to be leaders of the GMC Columbus community were also recognized: Matthew Williams of Columbus, Alexandria Williams of Columbus, James Spruill of Ft. Benning, Marcus Priester of Phenix City, Micheal Randle of Columbus, John-Amos Hall of Columbus, Dempery Hinson of Columbus, Patrice Dawson of Columbus, and Derrick Pope of Phenix City. Five GMC Columbus students were honored for their induction into GMC’s Distinguished Order of the Servant Leader, which recognizes students who have completed at least 100 hours of community service during a calendar year. This year’s inductees are Matthew Williams of Columbus, Lauren Ellerbee of Columbus, Tina Engel of Columbus, Brett Smith of Ft. Mitchell, and Jeremy Bryson of Ft. Benning. Two students were honored for being recipients of the Spotlight on Citizenship award: Stephanie Baliles of Fortson and Zachary Green of Columbus. Awards were also presented to faculty and staff members who have demonstrated their commitment to the development of the students of GMC Columbus. The Employee of the Year Award was presented to Cathy Carter of Columbus, and the Educator of the Year Award was presented to Amanda Bond of Columbus. Lillian Wooldridge of Columbus was honored as the institution-wide Adjunct Professor of the Year. Keshia Easterling of Columbus was honored as the institution-wide Character Educator of the Year. The student body of GMC Columbus presented awards to Erica Stone of Americus for Columbus Faculty Member of the Year and to Tina Engel of Columbus for Columbus Staff Member of the Year.
