GMC Columbus recently inducted ten new members into its chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the prestigious international academic honor society for two-year colleges. To be invited to join Phi Theta Kappa, students must have a GPA of at least 3.5, and they must maintain a GPA of at least 3.25 in order to remain members in good standing. Members of PTK are eligible to apply for exclusive scholarships, many of which are awarded when the student transfers to a four-year college. The new inductees are Kelsie Brooks and Samantha Sookdeo of Ft. Benning, Barry Cooper of Fortson, Kristopher Fitch of Midland, Teresa Simon of Ellerslie, and Kellie Edenfield, Eugenia Roberts, Rena Thompson, Latoria Tucker, and Jarrod Walton of Columbus. New member Kristopher Fitch, a Paralegal Studies major, “feels great” about being a member of an elite academic honor society. Fitch most appreciates the “resources and scholarship opportunities available for [members’] success.” Inductee Teresa Simon, a Middle Grades Education major, agrees that the scholarship opportunities are a huge benefit for members. Simon also believes that being a member of Phi Theta Kappa serves as motivation “to keep striving academically . . . because it feels great to know that you are being recognized for your academic achievements.”
