Community invited to attend concert in honor of Major General Peter J. Boylan

Georgia Military College President MG Peter J. Boylan, USA (Ret.) has announced he will step down in June. A concert featuring the Atlanta Pops Orchestra and soloist Katie Deal will be held in General Boylan’s honor on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. The concert will be held on the lawn of Grant Parade on the campus of Georgia Military College in Milledgeville and the community is invited to attend at no cost. As the longest serving president since the school’s founding in 1879, General Boylan’s tenure is filled with many memorable achievements. General Boylan, who became GMC’s 20th president in 1992, is responsible for restoring the reputation and financial stability of Georgia Military College which is now fully accredited and has been ranked as one of the best community colleges in the nation. GMC serves more than 6,500 junior college students at ten thriving campuses in Georgia, serves active duty military members and their families on and off military bases and posts throughout Georgia, serves students across the nation through online programs established under his leadership, and has made it possible for thousands of junior college students to transfer to four-year colleges and universities. General Boylan reestablished the reputation and academic excellence of the Georgia Military College Preparatory School, which during his tenure has provided college entry education and opportunity to thousands of middle Georgia students in grades six through twelve. His tenure has been marked by a focus on character, embracing the philosophy that education is two-dimensional, involving development of the intellect along with elevating the qualities of character of every student. As a result, GMC is recognized as a leader in “Ethics Across the Curriculum.” General Boylan has planned and secured the funding necessary to rebuild and renovate every structure on the GMC-Milledgeville campus, made possible the addition of previously non-existent athletic fields and facilities, and renovated, relocated, or established-as-new every Georgia Military College distant learning and extension center in the state.
