Columbus Students Travel to Milledgeville for Leadership Retreat

Georgia Military College Columbus Students Travel to Milledgeville for Leadership Retreat Seven Georgia Military College Columbus students travelled to Milledgeville, Georgia, to participate in a two – day leadership training retreat August 4 and 5. Members of the Student Government Association, Honor Council, Ambassadors, Ethics Bowl, Newspaper Club and other student leaders spent two days focusing on how to develop leadership skills, handle conflict, and encourage team work. Students also learned to overcome obstacles and trust colleagues as participants took turns rappelling down a 40-foot tower. While in Milledgeville, participants stayed in the James. E Baugh Barracks on the Georgia Military College campus. These barracks, dedicated in December 2006, house the cadet population during the school year. Participant Lykiria Iyamu said, “I learned to be a team player more. It’s not just about me. It’s about the group.” Iyamu, despite her fear of heights, enjoyed going down the rappelling wall the best. “I wouldn’t mind going again,” she said. “We overcame our fears together.” Retreat participants included Benjamin Celestial of Midland and Gerica Williams, Lykiria Iyamu, Scott Antley, Kenyada Majors, Rebekah Hill and Nickulas Moses, all of Columbus.
