Calhoun Wins State UDC Essay Contest

Kailey Calhoun, a sixth grade student at GMC Prep School, is a first place winner in the Georgia Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy Essay Contest. Her essay on Phoebe Yates Pember, Matron of Chimborazo Hospital Number Two, was selected by the judges as being the best in the state among those submitted by sixth grade students throughout Georgia. She will be recognized and presented with a special award at the Education Luncheon Honoring Real Daughters which will be held Saturday, October 4th, at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center, Peachtree City, Georgia.
