Welcome LTG Hal Moore

Georgia Military College is honored to welcome Lieutenant General Harold G. “Hal” Moore (Ret.) as the keynote speaker for both the GMC Prep School Graduation and the GMC Junior College Commencement ceremonies. General Moore commanded two infantry companies in the Korean War and also served in the Vietnam War. In November 1965, he and his under-strength battalion of 450 soldiers fought and won the first major battle of the American War in Vietnam against over 2,000 North Vietnamese Regulars. This conflict became the basis for the 1992 bestseller, We Were Soldiers Once…And Young. General Moore co-authored this book with journalist Joseph Galloway. In 2002, the book was made into a riveting movie, “We Were Soldiers,” starring Mel Gibson as LTC Hal Moore.

Thirty-nine members of GMC Prep School class of 2006 will graduate on Friday, May 26, 8:00 p.m., in the Cordell Events Center.
The 127th class of GMC Junior College will graduate on Saturday, May 27, 10:00 a.m., in the Cordell Events Center.

Immediately following the GMC Junior College Commencement, General Moore will be in the Sibley-Cone Library to sign his book, We Were Soldiers Once…And Young. The media is invited to attend all three events. ###
