Jenna Bethea wins precision class competition

During the 2013 Civilian Marksmanship Program Three-Position Junior Air Rifle Camp in Anniston, Ala., Jenna Bethea won the precision class competition with an aggregate score of 686.8. She ranked first out of 170 competitors in the precision class dispersed over the following five camps: Anniston, Ala.; Camp Perry, Ohio; Colorado Springs, Col.; Phoenix, Ariz. and Albuquerque, N.M. The 3×20 individual competitions involve shooting in 3 positions: prone, kneeling and standing with 20 shots fired in each position. The highest possible score per shot is 10.9, and Jenna held the top spot by scoring a 10.3 or higher with 39 center shots. The top eight precision competitors stood side-by-side on the firing line for 10 shots. It was very intense in the finals, but Jenna remained laser-focused and displayed mental toughness to earn the win. Jenna is the Captain of GMC Prep HS Rifle Team and she is projected to graduate in May 2014. Her goals are to qualify for the Air Rifle National Junior Olympics and to compete at a high level in a prestigious college. The Army JROTC Rifle Coach, retired Sgt. Maj. Shedina McCabe said “she is very proud of Cadet Major Bethea’s achievements.” Jenna Bethea of GMC Prep HS in Milledgeville, GA, concentrates between shots from the standing position.
