Garland organizes event to benefit Communities In Schools

Paul Garland, who teaches math and coaches basketball at GMC prep school recently organized a student vs. teacher basketball game as a way to generate excitement, school spirit, and to give back to the community. A full house witnessed an exciting contest that ended in a tie for the participants but a huge win for local organization, Communities In Schools (CIS). Through Paul’s efforts the prep school raised $1,000 which was recently presented to Sandy Baxter, CIS Executive Director, and CIS Board Members Lyn Chandler and MG Peter Boylan. COL John Thornton, GMC Prep Principal, said, “I am proud of Paul for taking the lead in supporting a great organization and also of the GMC family for always realizing philanthropy in our community makes everyone a winner. We hope to make this an annual event.” Communities In Schools is the nation’s largest dropout prevention organization, whose mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
