GMC-Columbus Student Honored with Servant Leader Award

Georgia Military College is proud to announce the induction of Tina Engel, Columbus, GA, into the Distinguished Order of the Servant Leader: an elite group comprised of GMC students who accumulate more than 100 documented hours of community service within one calendar year. A Criminal Justice major, Engel has been working with Soul Saver Rescue since June. She enjoys volunteering at adoption events conducted by Soul Saver Rescue as well as fostering animals in her own home. Engel spends her volunteer hours taking care of animals, especially dogs, by administering house, crate, and obedience training. She also takes them to veterinary appointments for shots, check-ups, and microchips. Her goal is to see these animals welcomed into their “forever homes.” When asked why she chose to volunteer with Soul Saver Rescue, Engel explained that she feels pity for the animals she sees in animal control facilities. “It’s heartbreaking,” she said, “when I go to pick one up and I know I can’t take them all.”
