USO Gives Thanks to GMC

(Milledgeville, GA) June 5, 2003 – This month, the USO Council of Georgia, Inc. sent a formal statement of congratulations and thank you to Georgia Military College for their outstanding support of the men and women serving in our country’s armed forces during “Operation Iraqi Freedom,” and for assisting the USO in their role as a link between hometown America and the members of our military. GMC junior college faculty and students collected non-perishable goods, including, hard candy, notepads, personal toiletry items, disposable cameras, playing cards, and lip balm for the men and women in uniform. More than eight boxes were sent to the USO where they were repackaged into individual “care packages” and sent to the troops overseas. Ms. Beverly Council, GMC junior college faculty and project leader said, “We felt this was a good GMC community project because so many of our alumni were involved in the war and were stationed overseas.”
The mission of the USO is to provide quality of life, social welfare and morale services to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forced, in times of peace or conflict. The USO is a not-for-profit agency established in 1941.
