Top Honors at Camp

Twenty-two GMC High School students recently participated in “Camp Semaphore,” a summer JROTC Cadet Leadership Camp at Fort Gordon, GA. The camp provided JROTC cadets with challenging, meaningful and practical learning experiences to enhance their skills in leadership, teamwork, and citizenship. These experiences encouraged self-confidence and discipline through hands-on adventure training and interaction with peers from diverse backgrounds in a safe military-style environment.

GMC cadets competed with JROTC cadets from 20 other Georgia schools, and brought home three of the top honors. Cadet Corporal Alvin Huff won the Top Basic Cadet Award; Cadet Captain Mary Beth Martinez won the Top Advanced Cadet Award; Cadet Captain Stephanie Chappell won the Best Company Commander Award. This is the first time that Georgia Military College has won three titles from “Camp Semaphore.”
