Thames Scholarship Fund

Georgia Military College Education Division Chair, Kim Cornett, recently began a Scholarship Fund in memory of a long-time close friend Charlotte Edwards Thames. This fund will benefit students seeking to pursue a career in education. Georgia Military College is one of the first junior colleges in the state of Georgia to offer an Associate in Early Care and Education. This new degree program will provide students with functional knowledge and will equip the students to evaluate their dispositions. Graduates may choose from a variety of career options including working in Head Start, preschool and child care programs, as well as early intervention programs.

Charlotte Edwards Thames grew up in Claxton, Georgia, and was the youngest of six children. Surrounded by a large extended family of well-educated people, she was nurtured in the importance of relationships, family and education. “Charlotte’s life was dedicated to the care and teaching of the very young and her legacy will live on through this scholarship,” said Kim Cornett.
