Stewart Wins First Place in Regional Science Fair
(Milledgeville, GA) February 17, 2005 – Mr. Kenneth Stewart, a sophomore at Georgia Military College high school, recently won first place in the GC&SU Regional Science Fair with his project, Time Flies Like an Arrow; Fruit Flies Like a Banana. The project tested whether a fruit fly would avoid a certain food source if it contained a certain chemical. He found that the fruit flies in his experiment were slightly partial to food sources containing hydrochloric acid, but would not avoid any food source presented; they ate everything. Mr. Stewart will continue testing his hypothesis before the UGA State Science Fair in April, to see if results change.
In addition to his first place ribbon, the United States Air Force presented Mr. Stewart with a medallion, an electronic spelling thesaurus and a leather daily planner.
