Professor of Mathematics Supports GMC Soccer

(Milledgeville, GA) September 12, 2008 – Dr. John Robertson, Professor of Mathematics at Georgia Military College has made a generous commitment to the GMC Women’s Soccer Program. As a result of Dr. Robertson’s gift of more than $30,000, an endowment for providing women’s soccer scholarships has been established through the Georgia Military College Foundation. Funds earmarked for this endowment as part of a federal Title III grant awarded to GMC will provide a match for Dr. Robertson’s generous gift, creating a perpetual fund that will impact the soccer program for years to come. Additional gifts from Dr. Robertson have facilitated the purchase of equipment for the team.

In honor of Dr. Robertson and in appreciation for his generosity, GMC will dedicate the Dr. John S. Robertson Soccer Field and unveil the new scoreboard on Tuesday, September 23 at 5:30 p.m., following the women’s, and just prior to the men’s, soccer game. Speakers will be GMC President, MG Peter J. Boylan, USA (Ret.), GMC Athletic Director, Bert Williams, and Dr. Robertson. Complimentary hot dogs and all the trimmings will be served to those in attendance following the ceremony.

Dr. Robertson said, “Since the women’s soccer program is relatively new, I wanted to provide the means for purchasing the necessary equipment to meet the needs of the program. Many of these students are playing purely for the love of the game, with no scholarship opportunities, and I felt it was the right thing to do to help provide funding for them.”
