Health and Wellness Parade

Georgia Military College hosted a parade on April 12, 2013 in recognition of the importance of health and wellness in all of our lives. The guest speaker was Dr. Michael Roberts, M.D., with the Oconee Regional Medical Center Wound Healing Center. Each year, the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation presents the MacArthur Cadet Award to the outstanding cadets of the Association of Military Colleges and Schools. The objective is to encourage the students of member institutions to emulate and practice the qualities exemplified by Douglas MacArthur as a cadet at the West Texas Military Institute and at the United States Military Academy. The criterion for the award is the most soldierly performance by a senior class cadet considering academics, athletics, and leadership. The award consists of a check, a uniform pin, an engraved MacArthur Medal and a copy of the book, MacArthur – Melbourne to Tokyo. This year’s Prep School award was presented to Elliot Fairbrass. The Distinguished Order of Servant Leader was presented to the following prep school cadets for demonstrating outstanding selfless service by completing 100 hours of volunteer service during a calendar year: Casey Kotrick and Liam Fairbrass. At the recent NRA Intercollegiate Rifle Club Championships held at Fort Benning, GA, the following GMC Cadets and College Students achieved distinction in their sport. Cadet Captain Markeisha Burton, Cadet Captain Latoni Smith, Cadet First Sergeant Reginald Kendrick, and Cadet Dexter Weems won the ROTC Division National Championship. In the Open Collegiate Division, two commuter students achieved honors as well. John Michael Roberson placed #11 in the nation in the Individual Championship and Cole Lassetter placed 22nd. Congratulations and a “Job Well Done!” were also extended to the college rifle coach, Corporal Damian Brown and the Chief Rifle Instructor, Mary Ellen Eaton. Additionally, on behalf of the Georgia State Senate, Senator Burt Jones recognized MG Peter J. Boylan with a resolution celebrating his service to Georgia Military College, the state and the nation.
