GMC’s Fayetteville Campus celebrates one-year anniversary
August 3, 2016 marks the one-year anniversary of Georgia Military College’s (GMC) Fayetteville Campus. Students, staff and faculty will enjoy cake to celebrate the campus’ inaugural birthday as part of a two-day financial literacy workshop focused on banking basics that will take place in the student lounge from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on August 3rd & 4th.
Construction of the facility was completed in July 2015 and its doors were officially opened to students for the 2015 Fall 1 Term on August 3, 2015. The Fayetteville Campus is GMC’s newest and most contemporary full campus.
“We experienced a remarkable first-year establishing the campus in a thriving community, growing our student body ahead of projections, equipping them for service, and ensuring their success,” said Brigadier General Rock Donahue, GMC’s Fayetteville Campus Executive Director. “But we know this is just the beginning; so although we take great pride in how far we’ve already come, we have a lot of faith in how far we can go.”
The Fayetteville Campus is continuing to experience rapid growth. In Fiscal Year 2016, the campus had an enrollment of 1,570 students who accumulated more than 18,000 credit hours. The campus recruits students in the state of Georgia from Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Meriwether, Pike, Rockdale, and Spalding Counties. Campus leaders have also formed Dual Enrollment partnerships with 11 high schools across the state of Georgia.
“As the Dean of Students, I encourage students to be engaged citizens, holding true to their moral compass, discovering and applying knowledge through a wide range of student life programs and activities,” said Lauren Harris, GMC’s Fayetteville Campus Dean of Students. “In collaboration with campus staff, faculty and student leaders, we foster the holistic development of students to prepare them to be contributing members of society. I am extremely excited for the next academic year, where we will expand our footprint, which will increase the opportunities to make a difference in the lives of students and our surrounding communities.”
Campus leaders continue to ensure that student success is its first priority. They presented 11 graduation diplomas to students at their first graduation ceremony on June 4, 2016. They also recognized their first Distinguished Graduating Student, Isabella Cuneo. Over 240-students were recognized for making the President’s List or Dean’s List in the first four terms of their inaugural academic year. The campus also secured their first endowed scholarship to provide an affordable educational opportunity for its students. The campus’ vision is “To be a values-based academic center of excellence serving the community and equipping all college and career ready students to succeed in a competitive global society, ensuring they can Start Here and Go Anywhere!”
