GMC to host annual Patriot Day Ceremony
Georgia Military College to Host Patriot Day Ceremony on September 11th
Georgia Military College will host its annual ceremony in recognition of Patriot Day on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. NewDay USA CEO, Rob Posner, will present scholarships to GMC Prep School students that have been directly affected by the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
The GMC Prep School class of 2021 is the first class to have not been alive during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Even though this year will look different due to COVID-19, it is of great importance that GMC recognizes the events of that historic day, and that we teach our students the significance of how it affected not only our country, but our world.
Each year, a firing squad fires off three rounds at 8:46 a.m. to signify when the North Tower was struck on September 11th. This year, GMC’s cannon will go off in place of the rounds. The cannon will sound four times throughout the morning in remembrance of when the North Tower was struck, the South, then the Pentagon, and finally when Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania.
Media is invited but this event will be closed to the general public. However, it will be livestreamed on GMC Prep School’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/gmcprepstory beginning at 8:15 AM.
