GMC students advance to Southeastern Theatre Conference

Jonathan Green and Jonathan Clark are advancing to the Southeastern Theatre Conference.

Two Georgia Military College students will have the opportunity to showcase their theatrical talents at the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC). 21-year-old Jonathan Green and 46-year-old Jonathan Clark were among several students from GMC and hundreds of other actors to compete at the SETC screening auditions at the Georgia Theater Conference in Augusta on October 12-15. Jonathan Green received top scores for his monologue performance that he rehearsed during GMC’s production of An Evening of Short Plays in May 2016. Jonathan Clark also received a solid score, securing his place as an alternate for the next round of competition. Green hopes his talents will land him a job with a professional theatre company at the conference.

“This is where the professional jobs are,” said Jonathan Green. “I’m looking to hopefully get about seven call backs from theatre companies across the country. Anything from major plays to Shakespeare.”

Each spring, SETC hosts combined Professional Theatre Auditions where actors can get summer, year-round, or seasonal work at professional theatres from across the nation. The auditions are held each March as part of the SETC’s annual convention. The convention brings more than 4,000 members of the theatre community together for three and a half days of workshops, keynotes, performance festivals, auditions, college recruiting, and job interviews. As an alternate, Clark may not get the chance to audition at the conference, but he’s more excited about attending the workshops.

“The conference itself is going to be a great experience,” said Jon Clark. “They have hundreds of workshops that you can go too. I’m really interested more in writing than acting. So I’ll have an opportunity to be a part of the 24-Hour Play Festival to possibly do some writing and directing.”

Both Jonathan Green and Jonathan Clark will attend the SETC’s 68th annual convention in Lexington, Kentucky on March 1-5, 2017.
