GMC Prep Student Wows Colleges at Thespian Conference Auditions

Having never auditioned outside of Georgia Military College (GMC) Prep School’s Theatre program, student Madison Sloan made a name for herself at this year’s Georgia Thespian Conference earlier this month in Columbus, Georgia. She auditioned in front of a sea of college representatives, hoping to earn a scholarship to one of them, but she blew her expectations out of the water when she received 16 college callbacks.

Sloan says she believed auditioning in front of such a large audience at the Georgia Thespian Conference would be great experience for her future. She plans to major in Theatre in college, and upon graduating, go on to act professionally.

“Going into the audition process, I fully expected no college to be interested in me due to the high concentration of highly skilled actors, dancers, and singers that auditioned in that meeting room with me in February,” Sloan said. “I had no idea that I could market myself successfully as a performer with so much competition. It let me explore deeper the world of college theatre and see what kinds of programs are available to me, between Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Honors Colleges, and Musical Theatre Certificates.”

Jennifer Morris, Co-Director of GMC Prep School Theatre, says Sloan worked hard on preparing for her college auditions, and is proud her hard work payed off.

“We worked on a package that highlighted her amazing abilities as a character actress,” Morris said. “This performance package and her awesome, unique personality got her noticed. We are very proud of her at GMC Prep School, and we’re excited for her future.”

Sloan has been accepted to Columbus State University, one of the 16 college callbacks she received, and will audition for their theatre program next month.
