GMC Prep Senior Catherine ‘Katie’ Nelson Recognized as STAR Student

GMC Prep Senior Catherine ‘Katie’ Nelson Recognized as STAR StudentCongratulations to Georgia Military College Prep School senior Catherine ‘Katie’ Nelson who was recognized as a top academic scholar in Baldwin County during the Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program held Thursday, February 26, 2015 and hosted by the Milledgeville Chamber of Commerce. Katie named GMC AP Biology teacher MAJ Emily Fairbrass as her STAR teacher for being such an influential person in her life.

Katie has a weighted GPA of 4.3, taking AP classes in Biology, Calculus, Physics, Statistics, Language and Composition, United States History and French.  She is the treasurer of the Junior American Legion, and a member of the National Honor Society, BETA Club, JROTC and Ethics Bowl Team.  Some of her other activities and honors include National French Honor Society historian, Student Council board member, Honor Roll, French Club, Cross Country, and One-Act Play Competition.  Katie serves as a 5th Grade Faith Formation Teacher, and Lector and Alter Server for Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Her future plans include attending Georgia Institute of Technology or Mercer University to study Biology or Biomedical Engineering with an ultimate goal of pursuing a medical degree in gastroenterology.  Katie is the daughter of LTC Thomas and Michelle Nelson.
