Georgia Military College Names 2019-2020 Educator of the Year

Georgia Military College has named Brooke Marcum Educator of the Year for the 2019-2020 school year. Marcum is a Professor at GMC’s Columbus campus.

Marcum received her undergraduate degree from Auburn University and her Master’s degree from Columbus State University. She teaches English Composition and Literature at GMC-Columbus. She started there in August of 2013 as an Adjunct Professor, then transitioned to a full-time Professor in January of 2016. Marcum says it’s an honor to receive the Educator of the Year award.

“I am my hardest critic and to be given this award is an immense honor. I feel blessed to work at GMC and feel as if I have found my ‘place,’” Marcum said. “The most rewarding aspect of teaching is the ‘lightbulb moment’ – whether that is a student who has struggled with writing over the course of the term but finally sees success in his or her eyes, or a student who feels confident in their writing skills when they leave my classroom and doesn’t panic at the thought of writing a report, or an essay, or whatever they have been tasked with.”

Executive Director for Georgia Military College’s Columbus campus, Major General David Coburn says Marcum is recognized as a leader around campus.

“Brooke is constantly working for student success, not only academically but in their personal life,” says Coburn. “She is a dedicated educator who genuinely cares for each of her students and it shows in their overall success rate.  Brooke is a recognized leader here at GMC Columbus to students, staff and faculty alike.”

Congratulations to Brooke Marcum as GMC’s 2019-2020 Educator of the Year!
