Georgia Military College’s Valdosta Campus has a new Student Success Center

Georgia Military College’s (GMC) Valdosta Campus is continuing its commitment to the institution’s mission of contributing to student success. The campus recently opened its new Student Success Center. The center is housed with Academic Success Coaches who work one-on-one with students. They help students with setting goals, time management, balancing college, and other concerns that students may have.

“We give students the encouragement that they need to succeed,” said Tyrone Johnson, GMC’s Valdosta Campus Academic Success Coach. “We really want to focus on retention and keeping our students here at GMC.”

Georgia Military College now has a Student Success Center at its Milledgeville and Valdosta Campuses. Johnson says students at the Valdosta campus have been taking advantage of the center and he enjoys meeting with them.

“One of the biggest things that I tell our students is even though it’s called Academic Success Coach, there’s so many things that affect a student’s academics and how they perform in the classroom,” said Johnson. “So while we are focused on maintaining good grades and maintaining their performance here in class, we also focus on a number of topics that might affect their life outside of school. We stress that we’re not counselors, but we do have the resources to connect the students with what they need so that they can focus in those environments.”
