Georgia Military College unveils Mason Golf Performance Lab

Harold and Brenda Mason stand with GMC’s Golf Team as they unveil the new Mason Golf Performance Lab.

Georgia Military College (GMC) has a new state of the art indoor training facility for both the College and Prep School golf teams. The Mason Golf Performance Lab honors Harold and Brenda Mason who have given their time, talents, and financial support to GMC. On September 8, the Georgia Military College JC Athletic Department recognized and honored the Masons for their significant contribution to the institution and the GMC Golf program.

The Mason Golf Performance Lab includes:

• A FULLSWING S4 Golf Simulator
• 1,000 square foot chipping and putting complex
• Team room and study lounge for the student-athletes
• A mural of Augusta hole #12

The Mason Golf Performance Lab will allow GMC’s golf teams to practice inside during inclement weather, play a significant role in the recruiting of college golfers, allow the Prep school’s golf program to use the facility for instruction and improvement, and offer the college the possibility to add an elective Golf class.

“GMC Athletics is very excited to officially open the Mason Golf Performance Lab and usher in the next phase in the development of our golf program,” said Bert Williams, Director of Athletics at GMC. “Brenda and Harold Mason helped start our golf program with a generous gift back in 1999, and they have again stepped forward to aid in the continued development and improvement of our very successful golf program. This facility will make a huge impact in our recruiting of college golfers and also the training of both college and prep golfers for years to come.”

In 1999, through the Georgia Military College Foundation, Inc., Harold and Brenda Mason established an endowment called the Harold and Brenda Mason Golf Fund to support the College golf team and promote the sport. As a result of their philanthropic support, an annual golf award called “The Mason Cup” was established in their honor. “The Mason Cup” is inscribed with a quote written by Harold Mason that reads “Golf and life will put your character to the test. Smile at the lie, have faith, achieve by effort, be determined and surpass the test.” These words underscore the love that Harold and Brenda share for GMC. Through the support provided by the Harold and Brenda Mason Golf Fund, GMC won the NJCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship in 2005.
