Georgia Military College Ranks High in new National and State Articles
Georgia Military College, with a primary focus on student success, continues to receive accolades. TheBestSchools.org, an independent organization made up of educators, editors, authors, and web professionals, has ranked GMC the #1 Community College in Georgia. GMC also ranks #14 nationally out of the top 50 of 1,132 Junior/Community Colleges in the USA!
The top community colleges are selected “based on a comparison of several studies and ratings of community colleges, each with their own unique selection criteria, as well as the schools’ reputation and our review of notable community colleges.” The website identified several factors to select the top community colleges:
Sustained Achievement Outcomes: Ongoing success in student perseverance and completion of Associate Degrees and/or transfer to four-year colleges
Learning Outcomes: Values and practices that actively engage students and require them to stretch academically; explore learning freely; pursue a variety of educational experiences and areas of study
Deployment Outcomes: Strong rates of employment, salaries and advancement for graduates matched with workplace skills needed
Equitable Outcomes: Policies and practices that result in student diversity and success among low-income students and underrepresented racial/ethnic groups (African American, Hispanic/Latino and Native American)
Cost-to-Value Outcomes: Reasonable tuition costs, access to financial aid resources and an emphasis on minimizing post-school debt
With 38 states and 21 nations represented in GMC’s student body, Georgia Military College takes pride in creating a diverse environment not only in the make-up of students, but also in faculty and staff. GMC’s leadership is what Dr. Mike Holmes, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty, says makes it possible for Georgia Military College to grow in diversity.
“We are very proud of this recognition and also very proud of our faculty, staff and students,” Holmes said. “GMC’s Vision 2029 gives focus on improving students’ personal well-being and giving hope for a brighter future. Our faculty and staff are truly making a difference in students’ lives.”
Georgia Military College is also excited to be ranked high by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. GMC ranks #3 in Business/Commerce, General for the African American students, #3 in Education for the African American students, as well as #3 in Psychology for the African American students, and ranking #1 for the state of Georgia in all three of those categories.
Georgia Military College Chairman, Randy New, says GMC makes it a priority to have a well-rounded group of students, in which they can learn from each other and grow together to become contributing members of society.
“You’re going to see anyone, from any walk of life, at any age – you’re going to see them up here trying to better themselves,” New said. “That’s what we provide at GMC, and we provide that in a very economical way and a very positive way, making students want to be a part of this community.”
These rankings are a testament to the diverse culture at Georgia Military College and the dedicated efforts of GMC’s faculty and staff and GMC’s commitment to student success through a character-based education.
