Georgia Military College Preparatory School Earns Reaccreditation from AdvancED

(Milledgeville, Ga.) Georgia Military College Preparatory School announces the school has earned the distinction of accreditation, thus extending the school’s accreditation from AdvancED (formerly SACSCASI) to 90 continuous years.  AdvancED is the world leader in providing improvement and accreditation services to more than 32,000 public and private school systems.

The AdvancED External Review Team, comprised of a Lead Evaluator and three other professionals, conducted an on-site visit during which the team evaluated the school’s self-study and used AdvancED Standards, associated indicators, and criteria related to student performance and stakeholder engagement to guide its evaluation.  At the conclusion of the visit, the Team recommended to the AdvancED Commission that GMC Prep be reaccredited for another five-year term and the Commission approved the recommendation in their June meeting.

The AdvancED External Review Team provided a report which included numerous positive reviews of Georgia Military College Preparatory School.  The report highlighted the school’s curriculum as one which provides equitable and challenging learning experiences that ensure all students have sufficient opportunities to develop learning, thinking, and life skills that lead to success at the next level.  Also noted as strengths of GMC Prep were the areas of teacher engagement of students in their learning through instructional strategies that ensure achievement of learning expectations and the school’s engagement of families in meaningful ways in their children’s education.

Georgia Military College Preparatory School scored above all benchmarks in Effective Learning Environments Observation Tool (eleot™) Performance Levels.  The Effective Learning Environments Observation Tool (eleot™) measures the extent to which learners are in an environment that is equitable, supportive, and well-managed.  During the on-site review, the team members evaluated the learning environment by observing classrooms and general operations of the institution. Using data from these observations, the Team evaluated the quality of instruction and learning in the areas of equity, high expectations, support, engagement, progress monitoring and feedback, management, and digital environment.

The AdvancED External Review Team noted that “Elevating the Character” is evident at GMC Prep and it is clear that GMC Prep School has resources and provides services that support its purpose and direction to ensure success for all students.

GMC Prep has held true to the same mission since its inception in 1879 and defines “student success” as graduating educated, contributing citizens who possess both the academic skills and character traits needed to be successful at their chosen college/university and in life. GMC Prep Principal, LTC Pam Grant, states, “the self-study process and visiting team experience validated that GMC Prep is fulfilling our mission to develop the intellect and elevate the character of the students we serve.”
