Georgia Military College Prep School Wins State Literary Competition

Out of 62 high schools from across the state of Georgia, Georgia Military College Prep School (GMC) Prep claimed first prize in the Single-A Public division of the State Literary Competition over the weekend. With a team made up of mostly underclassmen and only two seniors competing from GMC Prep, they defeated the nearly 300 competitors from around the state, marking GMC Prep’s fourth year winning the state title.

“We are thrilled to successfully defend our state title,” Major Mark Weaver, GMC Prep Fine Arts Director, said. “Going into the competition we were optimistic, but cautious. Our students knew they had to perform at an exceptionally high level to hold off some amazing schools gunning for the title. Our students continue to amaze us ear after year and they know they have a legacy to uphold.”

Weaver and Co-Director for GMC Prep’s Literary Team, Musical Theater and Drama teacher, Major Jenny Morris, say getting to call themselves champions is the result of long hours and dedication from the students.

“We have been working countless hours preparing the material for the students to perform, and working on polishing all aspects of their performances. We try to prepare them as much as possible so that they feel prepared and confident,” Morris said. “I love to see students work hard towards a goal and feel proud of their accomplishments. Performing with the best of the state allows them to learn by watching and listening to others and also helps reiterate what they do well, and what they still need to work on.”

In addition to sweeping the competition, GMC Prep also hosted the State Literary Competition for the second year in a row. Colonel Pamela Grant, Principal of Georgia Military College Prep School, says it was an honor to host the event, but an even greater honor to win.

“I could not be prouder of our fourth consecutive State Literary Championship team and their fabulous directors, Major Mark Weaver and Major Jenny Morris,” Grant said. “This group of students has been so dedicated and they’ve worked so hard, and it’s rewarding to see them reach their goal once again. We are so blessed to have the most talented students who are willing to put in the time and effort to achieve their best, while also having fabulous directors who are able to inspire our students, draw out their talent, and then coach them to do their best.”

Congratulations to the Georgia Military College Prep School State Literary Champions!
