First Service Academy Prep Students Head to USMA
Georgia Military College is proud to announce that the school’s first four U.S. Military Academy Service Academy Preparatory Program cadets have completed their year at GMC and have all been accepted to the plebe class at West Point (U.S. Military Academy) for fall 2007.
In the fall 2006 quarter four students, Brett Bartlett, Michael Dolan, Bryan Girouard, and Andrew Johnson, chose to attend GMC on a scholarship provided, in part, by the Association of Graduates (AOG) of the U.S. Military Academy.
The students pursued a rigorous academic schedule that was an AOG scholarship requirement. These high-ability students completed their coursework with a combined grade point average of 3.9. Furthermore these students were involved in extracurricular activities available at GMC such as Phi Theta Kappa, the junior college honors fraternity, and participating on the junior college football team. Andrew Johnson said, “The professors here at GMC were easy to relate to and very friendly.” Michael Dolan said, “GMC was a great preparation for next year at West Point.”
Lt. Col. Edward Shelor, USMC (Ret.), GMC’s Service Academy Preparatory Program Coordinator, said of the students, “It’s been a pleasure to be associated with these very fine cadets. Their leadership, motivation, and academic ability have marked them for continued success in all they do.”
