Dr. Joshua Fields Receives Vulcan Materials Company Teaching Excellence Award

Dr. Joshua Fields, Georgia Military College Augusta Assistant Professor of Natural Sciences, was recently recognized as the 2015 recipient of the Vulcan Materials Company Teaching Excellence Award.  This award recognizes exceptional teaching, mentoring and service to the college student body, and to successful accomplishment of GMC’s mission in higher education.

Dr. Joshua Fields, who holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Microbiology from Georgia Health Sciences University, is known as one of GMC’s most popular and requested instructors. Regardless of when his classes are scheduled (which are often late afternoons and evenings), students flock to his classes due to his personality as well as his interactive and varied teaching methodologies. His classes are thoroughly prepared and engaging for students, and definitely follow the philosophy of student-centered learning.  He cares deeply that his students understand concepts and don’t just memorize the material.

Dr. Mike Holmes, GMC Sr. Vice President, Chief Academic Officer & Dean of Faculty, commented, “Dr. Fields’ positive attitude, intelligence, humor, willingness to work for the greater good, integrity and high standard of excellence make him an exemplary instructor, colleague and mentor.  Josh strives consistently to be an engaging teacher and role model who can have a lasting impact on students.  He requires much of himself, his colleagues and his students and teaches with care, compassion and enthusiasm.”
