Director of Joint Staff, Georgia National Guard, earns promotion from Colonel to Brigadier General

Director of the Joint Staff, Georgia National Guard, Brigadier General Reginald G. A. Neal, has earned a promotion from Colonel to Brigadier General. On Sunday, January 7, General Joseph Lengyel, Chief of the National Guard Bureau joined the Soldiers and Airmen of the Georgia National Guard at the Clay National Guard Center to celebrate the promotion. Brigadier General Neal received the Defense Superior Service Medal from General Lengyel for his performance this past year as the Executive Assistant for General Lengyel, and was then promoted to the rank of brigadier general.

In 2015 then Colonel Neal assumed command of the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, as the first African-American Commander. In 2016, Neal was selected to serve as the Executive Assistant to General Lengyel. This past fall, Neal returned to Georgia and upon his promotion assumed duties as the Director of the Joint Staff for the Georgia National Guard.

As a graduate from Georgia Military College, Brigadier General Neal says his education at GMC was a critical stepping stone to establish the foundation for the achievements in his career.

“Attending GMC was a pivotal point in my life,” Brigadier General Neal said. “Georgia Military College established the fundamentals which prepared me to excel in my career and future educational endeavors. When I graduated from GMC, I was equipped to meet any challenge I faced.”
