Walker Commissioned

Courtney Walker, of San Bernardino, Ca. completed Georgia Military College’s Early Commissioning Program and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army on March 16, 2007.

Courtney Walker was the Cadet Battalion Command Sergeant Major, and it was his responsibility to maintain the training and military bearing standards in the cadet battalion. LTC Jay Hallam, Professor of Military Science, said, “This is very difficult when leading your peers. LT Walker was a leader by setting the example and meeting the high standards he set for the cadets. He prepared other cadets for their summer training and trained them on basic military skills. He was a counselor, mentor, and a motivator to the cadets at GMC. The support and guidance he received from his family were integral in his development and gave him the tools to be the leader he has become.”

GMC’s Early Commissioning Program, one of only five such programs in the nation, is a demanding program in which cadets develop the skills necessary to be leaders in the United States Army within a period of two years.
