Six new Georgia Military College Columbus students began their college careers this term as recipients of GMC Columbus’ competitive Student Ambassador Scholarship, which covers all mandatory tuition and fees for up to eight terms (two years) at GMC Columbus. Eve Pratheepratana, Briana Shoulders, and Bre’shan Williams, all of Columbus, GA, Colton Cox and Thomas Morgan of Richland, GA, and Hunter Turvin of Pine Mountain Valley, GA, were selected to receive the scholarship based on their exceptional academic merit, leadership experience, and extra-curricular involvement, as well as other factors. The GMC Student Ambassador Scholarship Program is designed to financially assist exceptional freshmen through the first two years of college while simultaneously serving the community at large. Scholarship recipients devote an average of eight hours every week (64 hours per 8-week term) to community-enriching activities, including independent volunteer work as well as school-sponsored events. Several Student Ambassador Scholarship recipients volunteer regularly at PAWS Humane. One recipient, Briana Shoulders, recently helped host a Red Cross blood drive at GMC Columbus. When asked what the best part of the Ambassador Program is, Shoulders said she enjoys the social aspect. “We are always promoting the school, meeting new faces, and welcoming [people] to GMC,” she said. Shoulders stated that she is happy to be involved in efforts throughout the school, including recruitment and helping with new student orientation.
