Parks to Serve

Ms. Judy Parks, Georgia Military College Learning Support Services Reading Coordinator and Learning Center Director, was recently voted president-elect of the Georgia Association of Developmental Education. This new position is a three year commitment with Parks serving the first year as president-elect, the second year as president, and the third as past president. The Georgia Association of Developmental Education (GADE) is the state arm of the National Association of Developmental Education which seeks to improve the theory and practice of developmental education at all levels of the educational spectrum, the professional capabilities of developmental educators, and the design of programs to prepare developmental educators.

Parks said she looks forward to this new opportunity, stating, “Serving in the GADE presidency is not only great career experience for me but also puts GMC in a position to be in regular contact with others in the field of developmental education. We at GMC would like to be known for all the good things we do (like supporting developmental education), and this service is a good way to give GMC more recognition in the state organization.” Parks said that GMC’s president, MG Peter J. Boylan, USA (Ret.), is committed to improving the school’s learning support services program and over the last several years GMC has sent more representatives to the National Association of Developmental Education conference than any other school in the state of Georgia. Parks has been a member of GADE for six years and served the past two years on the executive committee as secretary. Parks has been an instructor at Georgia Military College for nearly ten years.
