New Columbus Campus to Hold Ribbon Cutting

(Columbus, GA) – Georgia Military College will kick off the fall quarter with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Block Party at its new Columbus Campus, September 24, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Georgia Military College established a Distant Learning Center (DLC) at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1997. Since that time, GMC has served the educational needs of both the military and community students in the Columbus area. The success of its on-post operations brought about a plans for a new community campus, now located off Macon Road and Cross Country Drive (across from Long Horn Steak House).

Ribbon cutting agenda: (outdoor activities may change due to weather)
11:30 – Arrival time for guests (new campus parking lot)
11:40 – Carver High School drum line performs
11:45 – Hardaway High School cheerleaders perform
11:50 – Ribbon Cutting Ceremony begins
12:10 until 1:00 pm – Campus tours and Networking

Fall quarter classes will begin October 4, and students are encouraged to register for fall classes the week of September 27 – October 1, 2004. GMC Community College offers an open enrollment policy; anyone who has obtained a high school diploma or GED certificate is eligible to attend.

The new campus will house 7 classrooms, a state-of-the-art computer lab and science lab, student area, tutoring room, and staff and faculty offices. GMC offers day, night, and weekend classes to meet the needs of active students. Classes will be offered at the new Macon Road facility and on post.

GMC Community College is an accredited 2-year community College where students earn an associate’s degree upon completion of their academic program. Degrees offered are: Associates of Science, Associates of Arts, and Associate of Applied Science with concentration areas in: Pre-Nursing, Criminal Justice, Education, Business Administration, Behavioral Science, and General Studies.

Class size is limited to 25 students and free tutoring is provided to all GMC students. Financial Aid is available to those who qualify including the Hope Scholarship and Georgia Grant. As an added cost saving measure students have the option to rent their books instead of purchasing them.
