JC Character of the Week – October 24, 2007

This past week I faced one of the most difficult situations of my life; the death of my first hero and all-time champion, my daddy, L. Forrest Scott. Several years ago Representative Charles Norwood arranged for an American flag to be flown over Washington, D.C. in grateful appreciation of daddy’s service to the nation as a bombardier on a B-17 bomber during World War II. Daddy was honored to receive the flag and requested that one day it be displayed on his casket.

Because of the special significance of the occasion, I requested that an Honor Guard retire the colors at daddy’s funeral, and they accepted the invitation. Escorted by CSM Calvin Hill, accompanied by Mrs. Sharon Leverett and Ms. Susan Smith, and directed by C/CSM Kristopher Farrar, Jesse Chastain, Kyle Story, Steven Grant, William Olson and David Privett the cadets initiated a perfect performance. When Cadet Farrar presented the flag to me, I was satisfied that daddy’s heartfelt request had been fulfilled.

For service beyond their normal cadet duties, I nominate the Junior College Color Guard as Characters of the Week.
