GMC WINS with Chicago: The Musical
Congratulations to the GMC One Act Team for winning the Georgia High School Association Region/Area Competition yesterday at Baldwin High School. The Area 4 Competition comprises schools from Regions 5, 7, and 8. GMC won seven awards. All Star Cast awards were given to Maya Mapp for her portrayal of Velma Kelly, Delarrion Milner for his performance as the Master of Ceremonies, Tamber Taylor for the role of Mama Morton, and Regan Mullis as Liz. The All Star awards are given by the judges for performances in the competition that stand out above the others. Technical awards were also given and Chicago won for Best Costumes. Sarah McTyre received the Best Actress Award for the Region/Area for her performance as Roxie Hart. The final awards were given and GMC landed on top, defeating last year’s State Champion, Dekalb School of the Arts, by 23 points. It was a great day for GMC Theatre! Final Placements (top 4 only) 4th – Lincoln County High School 3rd – Commerce High School 2nd – Dekalb School of the Arts 1st – GMC Best Actor – Dekalb Arts Best Actress – GMC Chicago: The Musical will be presented Thursday night in the Goldstein Center at 8 PM and Saturday at 3 PM and 7 PM. Tickets are only $5 and are available now in the Prep School Main Office.
