Georgia Military College Prep School Takes Part in Stop the Bleed Training
At Georgia Military College (GMC) Prep School, safety is a top priority when it comes to students. That’s why Colonel Pam Grant, Principal at GMC Prep, says any opportunity to learn new ways to improve the safety of GMC Prep, the faculty and staff are eager to take. Last week on May 30, Georgia Military College Prep School employees took part in the Stop the Bleed school response program. According to the Georgia Trauma Foundation’s website, it describes the training course as a program designed to teach school teachers, nurses, and staff how to render immediate, potentially life-saving medical aid to injured students or co-workers while awaiting the arrival of professional responders.
Dwayne Morgan, Krystal Smith, Joseph Philips, and Steve Chapple, all first responders in Baldwin County, conducted the certification class. Grant says it’s important for schools to always be in the know when it comes to first response.
“Our students’ safety is our number one concern,” Grant said. “We take advantage of any training that will better equip us to better help in the event of an emergency. We are so appreciative to Dwayne Morgan for bringing his team to the Prep School so that all of us could obtain this certification.”
The training received by GMC Prep School faculty and staff is Bleeding Control Basic v. 1.0. It’s a certification through the American College of Surgeons, Committee on Trauma, one that Associate Principal at GMC Prep, Steven Greer, says he’s grateful to have.
“Stop the Bleed training has better prepared our faculty and staff so they are equipped to take immediate action in the event of a traumatic injury. Stopping bleeding as soon as possible saves lives,” Greer said, “Our teachers are now better informed and trained to control bleeding whether they only have their two hands or whether they have a full trauma first aid kit available. This training is invaluable.”
