GMC Prep, NewDay USA to announce scholarships for children of deployed GA National Guard Soldiers

NewDay USA to Announce Scholarships for Children of Deployed Georgia National Guard Soldiers
to attend Georgia Military College Prep School

Georgia Military College Preparatory School (GMC Prep) supports our Veterans and those actively serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. With the imminent deployment of the Georgia National Guard 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT), Georgia Military College Preparatory (GMC Prep) School and NewDay USA, a VA mortgage company that serves America’s Veterans and their families, have teamed up to provide a scholarship opportunity to those families. NewDay USA will award a full scholarship to any child or children of a member of the Georgia National Guard 48th IBCT that is deploying to Afghanistan to attend Georgia Military College Preparatory School, grades 3-12, on a full scholarship. The annual tuition of $5,250 will be paid for by NewDay USA for any child of a Soldier in the Georgia National Guard that deploys to Afghanistan. This scholarship is good for the entire time the child or children attend Georgia Military College Preparatory School, their only requirement is to keep up their grades and discipline.

With the holidays coming up and the deployment of the 48th IBCT, Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell IV, President of Georgia Military College, says this is the perfect time for NewDay USA to announce this opportunity.

“We don’t want any Georgia National Guard deployed parent, or family of those deployed, to have to worry about their child receiving a great education,” Caldwell said. “NewDay USA is so generous to provide the funds to create this opportunity for the children of military families to attend GMC Prep School where they will develop the intellect, and elevate their character of each student.”

In addition to announcing this new scholarship opportunity for children of deployed National Guard Soldiers, NewDay USA will also be presenting a scholarship to another student of a National Guard family at Georgia Military College Preparatory School. The NewDay USA Foundation has awarded full-tuition scholarships to high school students at thirteen military schools in eleven states, which includes thirteen scholarships given to GMC Prep School cadets since 2016.  NewDay USA scholarships are provided to students who have a parent or guardian who is a fallen or a 100% disabled veteran as a result of their deployment.  Scholarship recipients, or “NewDay Scholars”, initially were only for Gold Star family members; students who have lost a parent in the Global War on Terror (GWOT), but now will expand to those National Guard families who have served in GWOT.

On Monday, December 3, 2018, NewDay USA, accompanied by the Commanding General of the Georgia Army National Guard, will make the announcement for this new scholarship opportunity, as well as present another scholarship to a student of GMC Prep. The Commanding General of the Georgia Army National Guard, BG Randall Simmons, Georgia National Guard representatives, Mr. Rob Posner, CEO/President of NewDay USA, Admiral Thomas Lynch, Chairman of NewDay USA, and Georgia Military College leadership will be present to make the announcement.
