Michael Roberts to start at quarterback as team looks to improve to 2-1 Brent Martin CNHI CNHI Thu Sep 16, 2010, 08:00 AM EDT https://unionrecorder.com/localsports/x176917200/GMC-JC-should-be-able-to-run-on-N-C-Tech-tonight MILLEDGEVILLE — Our hometown GMC JC Bulldogs certainly made a huge statement over the weekend when they manhandled No. 5 ranked Snow College in route to a 42-21 victory at Davenport Field. The Bulldogs will be doing something out of the ordinary tonight when they take on N.C. Tech’s young program at 6 p.m. The night should be cool and crisp and it will be an ideal opportunity to catch GMC’s offensive attack in full flight and see just how dominating their defensive front can be. But the Bulldogs will be going on less practice time this week in preparation for N.C. Tech, a team that’s only been around a couple of years but could pose some problems for the Bulldogs with their shifty receivers and solid line. “Short weeks always get real interesting. You’ve got to give them some down time to get off that game, and then you’ve got to get ready and do all the things you have to do,” said head coach Bert Williams. “It’s always tough when you come off Saturday and have to come back and play again on Thursday.” Quarterback Dylan Shaddix was injured (concussion) versus Snow, but his replacement Mike Roberts took most of the snaps and did a fine job of leading the team to victory over one of the top teams in all of NJCAA. Roberts will get the start tonight. “He did a really good job with that offense and took us down to victory,” said Williams. Now the Bulldogs (1-1) have a chance to start climbing in the polls, and a win Thursday night will certainly help their case. Williams, with good taste, then pointed out that many “Georgia” Bulldog fans missed out on good game last week when his team took care of No. 5 Snow — at the same time South Carolina (Marcus Lattimore) was taking care of UGA and Kansas was taking care of Georgia Tech. “Well, Georgia’s such a bad excuse anyway,” said Williams jokingly. “If you went to the game it probably didn’t work out for you. But you could have stayed here in Milledgeville and seen a much better game,” he said. “I think we were the only team in Georgia that won last week.”
