GMC-Augusta Hosts Blood Drive

As the season of giving approaches, GMC-Augusta got an early start!  With their second drive in two months, GMC and Shepeard Community Blood Center partnered again to collect blood donations.  Mr. Tut Baker, Recruitment Specialist with Shepeard visited campus prior to the drive, giving students an opportunity to learn about the Center and how they can be involved.

Baker explains, “We discussed the following facts: Every 2 seconds, someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion.  Only 37% of the United States population is eligible to donate blood.  Of that 37%, only 10% actually donates.”  Further, “All blood types and products are ALWAYS in urgent need.  With the increase in mass shootings, mass wildfires, hurricanes, victimization and accidents, the need for blood is at an all-time high.”

These facts resonated with Paralegal Studies major, Shelby (pictured) and many others as well.  Mr. Baker reports that Augusta-GMC donations during this second drive will help save 51 local lives!  Way to go GMC!
